It’s Been A While!

May 14, 2012

Hope everyone is doing well out there.

Taking it easy on the posting until I finish up a couple projects.
Very exciting news happening for me in the music and I really can’t
wait to share it. Soon!

In the meantime-I’ll be playing at Drom again on May 20th with Chico Hamilton.
Please come out and see Chico play if you are in town / we have been rehearsing
some of his new material and it promises to be a very special show. He really shows
no signs of slowing down!

So inspiring.

Ok! More news coming ASAP / stay tuned!

Recap – Nonstop Music!

April 18, 2012

It has been a ridiculously busy past few days.
From Saturday til yesterday I had a gig every night and two on Sunday!
Now that I finally slept in as much as I needed, I can bring everyone up to date.
Stick around for some photos (courtesy of my Mom)!

Sunday was a very important show – Chico Hamilton and Euphoria -
continuing our residence at Drom on the LES. This was my favorite show we have done there so far.
Chico and Jose James did an incredible duet of “Lazy Afternoon” as a nod to the version Chico
performed with Tony Bennett. Chico continues to inspire not only us but the audience with
music _and_ some of the best stage prescence around.

Chico turned the drums over to me for a few tunes and our set was full of energy and feeling /
think our best set with me on drums.

Of course then Chico got back on drums and totally tore it up again! Awesome.

Monday was the meeting of two of my favorite musicians – Vincent Chancey and Tim Motzer
as part of the Arts for Art series at Clemente Soto Velez.  Orginally intending to showcase
some of my tunes and improv the rest, we just ended up eschewing the written compositions and
coming up with some new ones on our own!

A very hip trio that I hope to hear again.

Well – I am off to look for some records – please enjoy the few photos below and
stay tuned for more updates. Up next is artwork for the new record / mastering is done and
I can’t even tell you how excited I am for this record to be floating around planet Earth.
Well I just did I guess….

Arts for Arts / The Jeremy Carlstedt Trio at Clemente Soto Velez – big show!

April 10, 2012

Hoping to see all of my WordPress friends there – great linup that night.
Very excited to be performing with Vincent Chancey and Tim Motzer.
This is a new configuration and should be pretty damn exciting!
Details below!

Upcoming gigs!

April 6, 2012

Some really nice ones this month!

April 15th, Chico Hamilton and Euphoria returns to Drom in the East Village.
Response to these gigs has been overwhelming, great crowds, great vibes -
Chico sounds amazing as usual, and at 90 years old it’s pretty ridiculous to see
him playing with so much energy (drummers yeah!).

On April 16th I’ll be bringing a trio into Clemente Soto Velez on the LES for some of my
tunes and collective improvs. The group is made up of some of my favorite musicians -
Vincent Chancey (French horn) and Tim Motzer (guitar/bass/electronics).

Hope to see all of my friends at both of these gigs!

It’s going to be fun!

More Vinyl Adventures!

March 28, 2012

Hi everyone!

I have been finding lots of great records out there in NYC. It really is the best value in recorded music at this point. You don’t have to worry about your hard drive crashing and losing all the sounds you have collected. Also – I feel like it makes you appreciate the music through the physical process of getting up and putting on the record, concentrating on putting the needle down at the right spot, and of course checking out the album art.

Hoping to do my upcoming EP on vinyl – maybe one day it will end up in a thrift store near you! More soon about the EP / getting closer to completion, and also a gig update tomorrow, there are some good ones coming up!

Here are a few of the latest finds – nothing here was more than a few bucks – beat that MP3!

Chico Hamilton EP – On Vinyl!

March 13, 2012

This is really hip.

Chico’s first solo record was a 10″ with Howard Roberts and George Duvivier -
a ridiculously swinging and creative record.

To celebrate this in coordination with the latest recording of Chico’s,
Joyous Shout (www.joyousshout.com) printed a 10″ of Chico’s originals from the
Revelation session which was released last year.

I love this EP – Chico’s tunes and playing are stellar as usual, and I have to admit,
it’s pretty cool to hear myself on an actual record (I played percussion mostly of course,
but track #2, that’s me on drums!
).

Not sure how many of these are around, so head over to Joyous Shout and pick one up – it’s happening!

Big day/Dinner tonight!

March 1, 2012

Taking the evening to relax, make some food, listen to records, and whatever else. Today was a big day: Main Drag Music to get my snare stand fixed, then a rehearsal with Chico Hamilton, nice chill with Nick and Mayu from Chico’s group at Grand Central, and finally a stop for some groceries.

Also-today I heard the masters of my upcoming EP. I am ridiculously excited to get this released.

Wound down with some homemade soy meatballs with a sauce not from the jar all baked in the oven. Finished with some Grana Padano.

Delicious!
